PTFE (TFE) and Kynar both are in short supply.
Teflon product PTFE (TFE) along with Kynar-PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The world need for this mineral has risen significantly, as well as supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and very low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilized within a good deal of applications from non-stick fry kitchenware to ptfe tape for home use. This particular mineral is actually a crucial raw material within the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and lots of refrigerants. This increase in demand coupled with shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double throughout the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to stay in affect in the near future.
